Hindu Annakut festival

On Annakut, people gather in the streets to get gifts of rice and other food from temples. They then sacrifice the foods to the god Krishna.

The Hindu Annakut festival, also called Govardan Puja, is celebrated on the fourth day of Diwali

The holiday commemorates the victory of Govardan as a manifestation of Krishna over Lord Indra, the god of rains.

On this day in Calcutta and other cities, people gather in the streets outside of temples and wait for rice, wheat, curry of gram flour and leafy vegetables to be slung towards them. They then offer the food to Lord Krishna.
