Dozens of cars were caught in mudslides on two major highways in California, after heavy rainfall hit the area around Lake Hughes and Elizabeth Lake, 120 kilometres north of Los Angeles.
The storm arrived on Thursday, 15 October, with torrential rains and golf ball-sized hail taking residents in the drought-stricken region by surprise.
Luckily, no one was injured by the storms or the mudslides that followed, but according to reports 14 people were rescued from the rooftops of their cars on Interstate 5, California's main north-south artery.
The area also experienced flash floods, with more than 7 centimeters of rain pouring in just 30 minutes and roads east of the mudslide turning into coursing rivers.
