Chinese, Poles least concerned about warming

As an opinion poll by the Pew Research Center shows, poorer people and people from polluted countries care less about global warming

Chinese and Polish people are those least concerned about climate change. Only 18% of Chinese and 19% of Poles believe that "global climate change is a very serious problem" (see chart).

This is one of the results of a global poll conducted last Spring by the Pew Research Center, whose results were released last week.

The thinking of Chinese and Poles is surprising, given that both countries suffer from pollution caused by the burning of coal, which also leads to heavy emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG).

It could be that heavily polluted countries are less concerned because they anyway live in a degraded environment.

The other findings of he poll show that South American people are concerned most about climate change and Middle Eastern respondents least.  Also, people from poor countries tend to be more concerned than those from rich countries, which is understandable.

Finally, people in countries preoccupied with other problems, such as wars and other security threats, such as Turkey, Russia, Pakistan, Ukraine and Israel are also less concerned.
